Mother Naysayer

Authentic Pines sophomore EP entitled “Mother Naysayer” is the product of 5 talented songwriters coming together as one cohesive group to etch their presence into the music world. The EP covers a broad number of topics. Listeners will find a version of their own stories in the relatable tunes. “Daisy Chain” and “Dirty Shoes” deal with the topics of love and loss, while “Sink” talks about topics such as maturity and embracing who you are, with explosive choruses and a unique groove.

Better Broken

Authentic Pines debut EP “Better Broken” released in 2018 holds stories told about a young adults struggles with finding his way though life. The bands most streamed song “Pineapple Boy” is filled with emotional lyrics detailing an experience with substance abuse and untrustworthy friends.

Full Biography

Hailing from Chicagoland, Authentic Pines is a hard hitting 5 piece, consisting of vocalist Joel Smith, guitarists Nathan Markiewicz and Charlie Verdico, bassist DJ Ketter and drummer Vince Savarino. The band infuses sounds from artists such as the Foo Fighters, Sorority Noise, Balance and Composure, among many more, to find their own niche; a sound that will be familiar to those versed in hard rock at all, but with distinctive twists that make it uniquely their own. With its’ current lineup, Authentic Pines has released 2 studio EPs, Better Broken in 2018 and Mother Naysayer in 2019. They recorded a third EP which will be released in 2023.

The song writing is a collaborative effort. You can hear the different influences each member has on every track. From the intense drumbeats on Daisy Chain, to the ambient bridge in Fest Girls, it is clear that the band is a product of every voice in the group and is better for it. Authentic Pines has also proved they are able to write a cohesive record, while still making sure each song has a distinct flair. For example, Pineapple Boy is a power ballad about the perils of drug addiction, while songs like Waiting for You and Slackline are more straightforward, smack you in the face, hard rock. But even with their differences, no one would doubt for a second who they were written by. 

Authentic Pines has played at various venues throughout the Chicago area, such as Bottom Lounge, Subterranean, and Beat Kitchen and have played with big name acts like Fredo Disco, Adelita’s Way, Summer Wars, Gold Steps, and Drake Bell. People are drawn to their shows due to the songs on the records, but seeing them live is a whole different vibe. The shows they play are packed with energy, and delivers an experience the audience is sure to remember.
